Jetgo has added a third route to its fledgling regular public transport (RPT) network, with the regional carrier to start service between Tamworth and Brisbane from January 19 2015.

The airline said it would offer twice daily flights between Tamworth and the Queensland capital from Monday to Friday, subject to regulatory approvals and finalising an agreement with the Tamworth Regional Council.

“Tamworth has been without the popular direct service since Brindabella ceased operations in December 2013 forcing passengers travelling between Tamworth and Brisbane to change aircraft in Sydney, greatly increasing the transit times and cost,” Jetgo in a statement on Wednesday.

The new flights were due to start during the annual Tamworth country music festival, which run from January 16-25.

Jetgo has primarily been a charter and fly-in/fly-out operator prior to gaining its high capacity jet RPT Air Operator’s Certificate in October.

Its inaugural RPT flight was scheduled for November 10 with Sydney-Roma the airline’s first route, while service between Sydney and Gladstone was due to commence on December 1.

The new RPT flights would be initially flown with 36-seat Embraer ERJ 135 aircraft. However, Jetgo was due to receive the first of three 44-seat ERJ 140LRs before the end of 2014, enabling the carrier to potentially switch its RPT services to the larger aircraft.

Refreshing to see growth in the region sector after the recent spate of failures – wishing Jet Go the best, Slightly off reservation, but keen to see what plans Skytrans have (if any) for their future.

What would be really nice is if Jetgo picks up Canberra – Tamworth and Canberra – Newcastle, both lost when Brindabella went…..
