Qantas today opened the doors to its new Qantas Hong Kong Lounge.

The airline says the new multi-million dollar lounge seats 300 guests, has 12 showers, a family zone and a “flexible working area”, and delivers on Qantas’ ongoing commitment to creating the best travel experiences for its customers.

“The new Hong Kong Lounge is testament to our continued investment in the lounge and inflight experiences right across our network,” Qantas International CEO, Simon Hickey said in a statement. “The Hong Kong Lounge is stylish and contemporary, designed to reflect the colour, vibrancy and luxury of Hong Kong. It’s the perfect environment for our customers to relax and work before their flight. All of our flights from Hong Kong to Australia are overnight, so we know customers will enjoy being able to dine in the lounge before they fly so they can maximise their sleep onboard.”

The Hong Kong Lounge builds on the design and function of the Qantas Singapore Lounge, Consulting Chef Neil Perry’s menus again featuring. The airline has also partnered with Sofitel to offer a service experience similar to that offered in its Sydney, Melbourne and Singapore lounges.

The Qantas Hong Kong Lounge is an evolution of the successful new premium design concept established by SUMU/CAON for the Qantas Singapore Lounge.

Hong Kong is a busy vertical city, split by expanses of water and surrounded by calm nature. The lounge is designed as a metaphor for Hong Kong which has influenced the planning of the lounge.

The Bar and Dining areas are the hub and life of the lounge, similar to Hong Kong Island and Kowloon Peninsula. These two main areas are surrounded by lounge areas, representing the calm and relaxed atmosphere of the natural landscape that surround the built up areas of the city.

Last week I experienced the SIN lounge for the first time. It is nice, smart, service is excellent, food is ok, bar service is great … but … there is something amiss:

    – the space is very ‘industrial’ in style and a bit cavernous
    – height of the work bench and stools is really awkward
    – food is ok but nothing to rave about compared to SYD first class lounge – no real NP inspiration with luke-warm steamed dory fillets on mashed pumpkin
    – staff are terrific and really nice – they seem to be caring and genuine – a 1000% plus for this

When I get back from HKG in June I will give it a wrap.

Not being a QF basher as I am very well looked after at all times – this is just a comment on how I see it.

    Have a great day everyone.
