AA’s Frawley aviation journalist of the year

Australian Aviation‘s managing editor & publisher Gerard Frawley was announced as Aviation Journalist of the Year for 2013 at the National Aviation Press Club’s award ceremony in Sydney on Friday night.

Frawley’s award capped off a big night for Australian Aviation. He also won Aviation Feature Article of the Year for his ‘Seismic Shift’ story on the Qantas-Emirates alliance in the May issue of the magazine, while key contributor Geoffrey Thomas was second in that category for his piece in the November issue of Australian Aviation on Jetstar’s first 787 delivery. Tony Moclair was second placed in the Aviation Defence Story category (for his August issue profile on the RAAF’s AOSG), while contributors Thomas, Tony Moclair and Owen Zupp as well as editor Julian Green were among those shortlisted for the Aviation Journalist of the Year. Orient Aviation chief correspondent (and Australian Aviation contributor) Tom Ballantyne was runner up in the Aviation Journalist of the Year award.

Aviation Week‘s New Zealand based reporter Adrian Schofield won the Technical Story of the Year category and was runner up in the news category, which was won by Aviation Business‘s Doug Nancarrow. Nigel Pittaway won Aviation Defence Story of the Year, Alex Copal of the Herald Sun was Photpgrapher of the Year, and Geoffrey Thomas, writing for his airlineratings.com website, won Online Contribution of the Year.
