An iPad app special issue of Australian Aviation sister-magazine Australian Defence Business Review (or ADBR) was formally launched at the Pacific International Maritime Exposition 2013 today.

The app, sponsored by Raytheon and available as a free download from the Apple Appstore, was developed by ADBR publisher Phantom Media, and combines content from the October print issue of ADBR enhanced with a range of interactive and exclusive-to-the-iPad features, from an interview with Chief of Navy Ray Griggs to a tour around of Bell 429, an editorial by Raytheon Australia managing director Michael Ward on the national shipbuilding debate, an interactive Phalanx Close-In Weapon System, and video content featuring the forthcoming Hobart Class Air Warfare Destroyer.

“Together, we have expanded the means by which ADBR informs its readership on critical defence issues,” said Pam Wickham, vice president of corporate affairs and communications for Raytheon Company.

Phantom Media is the first Australian defence-aerospace publisher to satisfy the rapidly growing trend towards tablet publishing with the release of an iPad app to supplement its hard copy magazines.

“Whether for the iPad, print, websites or e-newsletters our aim is to always optimise our content to suit the strengths of that medium. So for the iPad app that means providing our readers with an intuitive and engaging experience,” said Gerard Frawley, Phantom Media publisher. “We believe it is our content that sets ADBR apart, and an iPad is the perfect way to deliver that content.”
