From August 15 Virgin Australia will introduce nonstop services between Melbourne and Hamilton Island.

The airline will operate 737-800s with eight business class and 168 economy class seats and will become the first airline to offer business class on the route since 2004.

Virgin Australia’s recently-appointed Chief Commercial Officer, Judith Crompton said: “Melbourne to Hamilton Island has been a monopoly route for many years and we are very pleased to be bringing competition to the market from today.”

Flights will depart Melbourne at 0830 on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday, arriving into Hamilton Island at 1130. The return flight departs Hamilton Island at midday on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday arriving into Melbourne at 1500. During off-peak months (between February and June), services will operate on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
