Air New Zealand is trialling seasonal flights between Christchurch, Queenstown and Mount Cook using ATR72 aircraft.

Becoming the 28th domestic destination, Air New Zealand said the addition of Mount Cook was designed to connect key tourism destinations in the south island and will operate as a trial until January 27.  The 40-minute flight will operate three times a week and has been timed to connect in Christchurch with Air New Zealand’s inbound flight from Tokyo.

While there are no plans to operate the flight year-round, Air New Zealand said it may offer the flights on a yearly seasonal basis.  The airline last operated the service in 2002.
