Virgin gets more mobile

written by australianaviation.com.au | July 6, 2012

Virgin Australia has launched a new iPhone app and mobile check-in for domestic flights.

Virgin Australia has launched a new Flight Specials iPhone application and is also implementing mobile boarding passes across its mainline domestic ports.

The Flight Specials iPhone app allows for users to view the latest fare specials and sign up for notifications when a particular route may be on sale. Virgin says that it is also developing a similar app for Android phones

The airline has also introduced mobile check-in for domestic flights, where smartphone users will be able to check-in via the Virgin mobile website and send their boarding pass as an SMS, which is then scanned at the departure gate.

“Our new app for iPhone links seamlessly to new features on the Virgin Australia mobile website, taking guests through every stage of the travel journey. For guests with carry-on luggage only, this means the ability to skip the check-in counter and board the flight simply by scanning their smartphone at the gate.”

The release of the new app and addition of mobile check-in comes after Qantas announced recently that it had added the ability to book flights to its mobile website.
