Four students get Airservices scholarships

written by australianaviation.com.au | March 18, 2010

The Royal Federation of Aero Clubs of Australia (RFACA) has chosen four students from around Australia to receive $6000 scholarships from Airservices Australia to aid with their flying training.

The four winners are Joanna Cantly and Vanessa O’Brien from Darling Downs Aero Club in Toowoomba, Lauren Mengel of Alice Springs Aero Club and Sam Regan of Rockhampton Aero Club. The winners will receive the funds to assist with the costs of obtaining a commercial or private pilots’ licence.

“We are very pleased to support RFACA and contribute to the future of Australian aviation,” said Airservices spokesman Rob Walker. “It’s important we continue to promote entry paths into the industry in a recovering economic environment.”

To enter, potential pilots take an introductory flight with an RFACA member where their suitability to receive formal training is assessed. The winners are then selected from the top 10 per cent of scholarship applicants. Airservices also awards scholarships through the Australian Women Pilots’ Association (AWPA), the Recreational Aviation Association of Australia (RAAA) and AOPA.
