Boeing awarded for F-111 work

Boeing Defence Australia (BDA) has won an engineering excellence award in the resource development category from the Queensland Division of Engineers Australia for its work in supporting the RAAF’s fleet of F-111 strike aircraft.

The award recognises Boeing’s best practices in supporting the aircraft since the 1990s, particularly through the Avionics Upgrade Program (AUP) and follow on upgrade programs for the RAAF which, since 1997, has been the sole operator of the complex, ageing aircraft. “The successful rollout of these projects and new technologies exemplifies the BDA engineering team’s professionalism and innovation,” said John Duddy, managing director and vice president of BDA. “We are honoured to be recognised for our efforts.”

Boeing can now nominate for the national Engineers Australia awards, while the company’s F-111 support program is winding down ahead of the aircraft’s planned retirement in December 2010.
